Fresh Fish Straight from the Fishermen
Looking for the freshest fish in Dénia? Visit the Lonja de Dénia, the town’s traditional fish market where local fishermen bring in their daily catch straight from the Mediterranean. From the famous red prawns of Dénia (gamba roja) to a wide variety of seafood, the Lonja is the best place to experience authentic local life and buy top-quality fish at unbeatable freshness.
A visit to Dénia’s Lonja (fish market) is a must for anyone who loves authentic local experiences. Every weekday afternoon, fishing boats return to the harbor with the day’s catch: from the famous gamba roja de Dénia (red prawn) to fresh fish and shellfish.
Around 5:00 pm, the traditional auction begins. This is when professionals buy their seafood, but private visitors are also welcome. Once the auction is over, the fishermen’s cooperative opens its shop, where you can purchase the freshest fish directly from the source. It doesn’t get any fresher than this!

Parking Tip
The Lonja is located right in Dénia’s harbor, just a short walk from the old town. The most convenient place to park is at the large harbor car park (Esplanada Cervantes), only a few minutes away. In summer, it can get busy, so it’s best to arrive a little earlier.
Experience
Even if you don’t plan to buy fish, the atmosphere alone is worth it: watch the fishermen unloading their catch, the auction in action, and locals lining up for their evening seafood. A truly authentic slice of Dénia you shouldn’t miss.
